Built-ins that belong to the house.

Shelving and cabinetry designed for one wall, built to its measurements and fitted in place.

Photo needed. Built-ins hub: a finished built-in wall, straight-on, room context visible.

Three things decide a built-in

What it holds

Books, a television, files, coats and boots. The contents set the depth and shelf spacing.

Open or closed

Open shelves show things off. Doors and drawers hide them. Most walls want some of each.

How it meets the house

Trim, baseboard and crown can carry into the piece so it reads as part of the room.

Photo needed. Built-in bookcase: floor to ceiling, ideally flanking a fireplace or window.

Built-in bookcases

A built-in bookcase runs wall to wall and floor to ceiling, so there is no gap for dust above it and no wobble at the base. Shelves can be sized to the books you own rather than a standard spacing.

To get started, send a photo of the wall and its width and height. Note any outlets, vents or windows in the way.

Built-ins often go hand in hand with kitchen cabinetry or a freestanding piece for the same room. Work is taken within about 45 minutes of Front Royal; see the service area.

Have a wall in mind?

Send a few photos of the space and rough measurements. Jesse will follow up to talk it through.
